When we use images in our services, they are used with purpose: to communicate, complement and enhance written content. They should not be used to decorate or dress a page.

Basic principles

Some basic principles:

  • avoid generic stock image cliches
  • don’t apply filters or coloured tints to images
  • for accessibility reasons, don’t run text over images, or use text as an image: design for everyone
